SPEARHEAD ‘Help
for Heath’ - Mild to Moderate Mental Health Condition
Management Programme
Group therapy for up to eight people and
one-to-one therapy
In autumn 2007 Holistic Resources obtained Spearhead funding
through East Lancashire PCT and Rossendale Borough Council
to provide group and individual psychotherapy to address mild
to moderate mental health conditions, for the wards of Worsley,
Stacksteads and Irwell. These areas have been highlighted as
the most deprived in Rossendale and located in the worst 9%
of the country for health deprivation and disability.
Anxiety and depression is present in many common health problems
including musculo-skeletal and psychosomatic conditions, accounting
for 60% of sickness benefit claims. Social deprivation and increasing
age are major risk factors for long-term incapacity benefit and
unemployment itself often leads to anxiety and depression.
Patients will be referred from local GPs for assessment and therapy.
