About Us
The concept
of REAL came out of the altruism of local community champions.
The region had benefited from work done by volunteer social entrepreneurs
who had worked for years to make Rossendale a better place to
live and work. Between them their track record includes the development
of:
 |
Rossendale Hospice |
 |
Haslingden Community
Link, Lancashire’s only Children’s Centre that
is a social enterprise |
 |
East Lancashire
Finance |
 |
PEER Support – the
first SirolliTM project in the UK (Northwest Regional winner
of Enterprising Britain 2007) |
 |
The Doals Centre,
a Community/Church Centre due to open in autumn 2008 |
 |
Local activists
with community welfare & drug and crime reduction experience |
| The future offers many new opportunities
and will require more sustainable resources to support the
voluntary activity. The Bacup & Stacksteads Single Regeneration
Programme 2000-06 enabled REAL to be developed as the sustainable
body for social regeneration through the community and voluntary
sector. Partners involved in the development included Rossendale
Borough Council, Lancashire County Council, Burnley, Pendle
and Rossendale CVS. |
Our Vision
To be recognised by public, private and community partners as
the resource to support services that fill gaps and initiate
new ways of ensuring Rossendale people have at least the same
services as neighbouring boroughs. Our main focus is in allied
health services that promote better health and contribute to
social and economic regeneration.
Our Values
In everything we do we will seek to:
1. promote Rossendale as a place to live and work
2. be independent and act in the best interests of the people
of Rossendale
3. respect and value differences
4. learn from others
5. develop the skills and confidence of our staff and partners
6. create sustainable businesses
7. and if we ever stop enjoying what we do we shall pack up and
leave it to someone else.
